Solar Panel Installation
Questions for Mayo

If you are considering solar panels or an electric vehicle charger for your home, business or farm, this page answers the most common questions we receive. Whether you are in Castlebar, Ballina, Roscommon or Leitrim, the Solar West team is here to help.

What is the difference between solar panels and solar PV

Solar panels is a general term. Solar PV refers specifically to ‘photovoltaic’ panels, which generate electricity. This is different from solar thermal panels, which are used only to heat water.

How long does it take to install a solar panel system

Most domestic solar PV systems are installed in one day. Larger or commercial systems may take longer depending on size, access and roof structure.

What grants are available for solar panel installation

The SEAI offers up to two thousand one hundred euro for domestic systems. Farmers may qualify for TAMS grants covering up to forty percent of eligible costs. We can help determine your eligibility.

Can you help me apply for a grant

Yes. We guide clients through the SEAI or TAMS process from start to finish, including paperwork and submission.

Do I need planning permission for solar panels

In most cases, no. Solar PV systems are exempt from planning permission for homes and many farm buildings under Irish regulations. But again we can double check for you.

Will solar panels reduce my electricity bills

Yes. Solar PV systems reduce how much electricity you need to buy from the grid, especially if your energy use matches your system size.

Can I add battery storage later

Yes. We install battery-ready systems so you can add storage when the time is right. Batteries store excess solar energy for evening or backup use.

Can solar panels be installed on sheds or barns

Yes. We regularly install solar PV systems on farm buildings including sheds, barns and milking parlours, especially under the TAMS grant scheme.

What types of businesses benefit from solar panels

Offices, warehouses, retail spaces and hospitality buildings can all benefit by reducing energy costs and improving sustainability credentials.

What types of EV chargers do you install

We install SEAI approved home EV chargers, both tethered and untethered, suitable for all vehicle types including Tesla, Kia, Hyundai, Volkswagen and more.
