The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland provides a grant to help homeowners reduce the cost of installing solar photovoltaic systems

The current SEAI solar panel grant includes

Nine hundred euro €900 per kilowatt for the first two kilowatts

The following two kilowatts will cost three hundred euros €300 each.

No more than two thousand and one hundred euros can be awarded.

An extra €600 euros if battery storage is involved
This funding is available only when the system is installed by an approved SEAI registered contractor such as Solar West

SEAI grants for solar panels – what is covered

The SEAI grant supports the supply and installation of solar PV panels, the inverter and battery storage if included. It does not cover solar thermal systems or EV chargers

You can install a battery ready system without adding a battery immediately. This allows you to upgrade your system later without further grant application

Some systems include a diverter device that sends excess electricity to your immersion heater, heating water instead of storing electricity. While this can reduce gas or oil use, it is not always the most efficient way to use excess solar energy.

No. You must apply for the SEAI grant before any installation work begins. If the panels are already installed, your application will not be accepted.

Does SEAI cover the cost of solar batteries

SEAI offers an additional grant of six hundred euro if your solar PV system includes a battery. The battery must be installed as part of the overall system by a registered contractor.

How long does it take to get the funding from SEAI
