SEAI grants for solar panels – what is covered

The SEAI grant supports the supply and installation of solar PV panels, the inverter and battery storage if included. It does not cover solar thermal systems or EV chargers

You can install a battery ready system without adding a battery immediately. This allows you to upgrade your system later without further grant application

SEAI approved solar panel installers

All installations must be completed by a contractor listed on the official SEAI Solar PV Installer Register

SolarWest is a fully registered and approved SEAI contractor. We assist with grant applications, ensure compliance and complete the post install paperwork required for payment

Storing solar power for hot water

Some systems include a diverter device that sends excess electricity to your immersion heater, heating water instead of storing electricity. While this can reduce gas or oil use, it is not always the most efficient way to use excess solar energy.

It often makes more financial sense to export excess power to the grid and use your boiler or heat pump for water heating, depending on your setup.

SEAI support compared with other grant options

The SEAI grant is for private residential properties only. Farmers and business owners may qualify for other schemes such as
Z

The TAMS grant through the Department of Agriculture

Z
Community Energy Grants for large-scale retrofits
Z
Accelerated Capital Allowance for commercial solar PV

Savings and system performance

With SEAI funding and reduced equipment costs, solar PV has become an affordable and effective upgrade. A properly sized system can reduce annual electricity bills by hundreds of euro and may also increase the resale value of your home

Excess electricity can now be exported to the grid, and payments are available under the Micro-generation Support Scheme
